Wick Insights Releases Late October Michigan Poll

New Survey Finds Dead Heat Between Incumbent Governor Whitmer and Tudor Dixon

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 2, 2022

(ATLANTA, GA) –Wick Insights, a FiveThirtyEight A/B-rated polling firm, polled 1,137 likely voters in Michigan from Wednesday, October 26 to Sunday, October 30, 2022, using a combination of text-to-web (70 percent) and landline surveying (30 percent). The margin of error for this survey is +/- 3.2 percent.

KEY QUESTIONS AND RESULTS:

If the November 2022 election for Michigan Governor were held today, for whom would you most likely cast your vote – Republican Tudor Dixon or Democrat Gretchen Whitmer? If you are still undecided on who to vote for, please select undecided.

Republican Tudor Dixon: 47.2 percent

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer: 48.5 percent
Someone Else: 2 percent

Undecided: 2.3 percent

When prompted to select between the two major party candidates, the few remaining undecided participants selected:

Republican Tudor Dixon: 49 percent

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer: 51 percent

When asked about their most important issue when voting, the top three selections from participants were cost of living (31.2 percent), threats to democracy (24.6 percent) and jobs/economy (16.1 percent).

“As Election Day approaches, the easy media narrative is that Republicans have both closed major gaps or expanded their leads across the country in battleground states. But when sample populations are truly representative in polling, massive swings are actually the exception, not the rule,” Wick Insights CEO David Burrell said. “Our surveys have consistently shown that, no matter the conventional wisdom, the Michigan gubernatorial contest remains one of the tightest races in the country.”
